This subject introduces students to
basic naval architectural knowledge. It enable students  to  familiarize
themselves with naval architectural terminologies and symbols, concept
and theory  of naval architectural, ship design process, ship loading,
hydrostatics and stability calculations. Characteristics
of modern construction materials including strength, limitations and
factors affecting appropriate building materials. Shipbuilding processes,
shipyard facilities, fabrication and assembly techniques. Roles of
classification societies in safety and quality assurance of
fabrication. This subject includes individual projects and assignments.

   

    

Course Objectives

  • Exposing terminologies, symbols and definitions used in naval architecture.
  • Expose the concepts and theories of naval architecture, ship's basic line drawing (lines plan), and the calculation of ship loading, hydrostatic and stability of the ship.
  • Describe the characteristics of modern building materials, the limits of construction materials and selection of building materials
  • Discussing the process of ship building, docking facilities, fabrication of ships and the roles of classification body.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students should be able to Clearly explain definitions, symbols, terminologies found in naval architecture.

  1. Applying the concepts and theories of naval architecture in shipbuilding
  2. Draw the lines drawing plans and an analysis of hydrostatic, stability of ships and loading of ships based on the concepts and theories of naval architecture.
  3. Describe clearly the characteristic of modern building materials, the limits of construction materials and selection of building materials.
  4. Explain the process of ship building, docking facilities, fabrication of ships, and the role of ship classification society.
  5. Apply an appropriate knowledge and skills on designing a marine vessel using naval architecture theory.
